E7.4 – Magnetic field measurement as an essential part of quality control

Abstract:
There is an increasing demand for magnets, driven primarily by the move to electromobility and renew-able energy. Magnets are needed for both sensors, such as encoders, as well as for electric motors. Magnetic encoder systems for precision applications depend greatly on the quality of the magnetic scale. While the magnetization process itself is often based on empirical data, the measurement processes and used measurement devices for the magnetic scales and pole rings are selected in a best-practice manner. This paper focuses on the design and development of the 3D magnetic mapper to describe a standardized protocol for measuring and quality control of magnetic scales, pole rings and magnet as-semblies for motor applications.
