ITK support with a donation. A donation of 1,500 euros for the Tafel Wetzlar, which helps socially disadvantaged fellow human beings, was handed over by ITK Managing Director Dr Ingolf Schäfer to Deacon Christof Mayer (pictured left), the head of the Tafel Wetzlar. “We are grateful for the support, because never before have so many people in Germany sought help at the Tafel as at present,” reports Mayer, emphasising that the increased costs of food, housing and heating are causing more and more families great existential fears and worries.
For the Lahnau-based company ITK Dr. Kassen GmbH, it has been a matter of course for several years now to support institutions at Christmas time that, through their commitment, make a social contribution to people who do not have it so easy in society. “Despite difficult general conditions, our company has once again achieved a very good result this year. We would like to share some of that,” reports Schäfer.
There are more than 960 food saving organisations in Germany, all with one mission: To save food and to help people in emergency situations with food quickly and unbureaucratically. But food banks are even more: as places where people meet, they create space for social contacts and human interaction. For this reason, the Wetzlar food bank also offers a food bank café in all distribution points and the food bank shops, which opens parallel to the distribution. “Drinking a cup of coffee, having a nice chat and picking up groceries already helps many of our visitors,” explains Mayer. “But in order to be able to provide regular support, the food banks themselves also depend on donations. We have to finance the rent for the shops, the warehouse, the fuel for the vehicles and much more with donations. Every euro counts,” said Mayer, who expressed his thanks to the company and the staff of ITK.
