The basis for every ITK system are real-time capable multi-axis controllers for the highly precise control of stepper and linear motors. In addition, we offer further components as stand-alone products (OEM variants).
Our own developments and in-house produced components include:
– Controls (up to 6 axes)
– Position measuring systems based on the magneto-resistive principle (MR sensors and measuring scale)
– Ironless linear motors with patented ITK functional principle
– Software and motion algorithms
A system consisting of individual components is only as good as the weakest link in the chain. Within a positioning system, the motor as a drive component makes a significant contribution. In order to live up to our claim of producing the best positioning systems on the market, we need high-performance drives. Commercially available motors have physical limits that our linear motors, developed and manufactured in-house, overcome. Stepper motors are manufactured externally according to our specifications and – if required by the application – modified in-house by ITK.
A linear motor should develop as much power as possible, be dynamic in its response behaviour and have a high degree of efficiency. And all this with the smallest geometric dimensions.
With this in mind, we have developed a linear motor with a completely new coil design. Both the coil shape and the arrangement of the conductor within the coil are novel and have been proven to have much better physical as well as mechanical properties. As a result, very high temperature resistance leads directly to high operational reliability of the application with shorter current rise times. The application benefits from dynamic response behaviour. We are very proud that this has been patented!
Linear motors from ITK are more dynamic and powerful with the same construction volume. This means that the motor is no longer the limiting factor and makes it possible to think in new dimensions when designing a new positioning system – true to our motto – “New paths are created by going down them!”
A stepper motor should have the most uniform positioning behaviour possible (jerk-free), a high position resolution and high torque when starting and stopping. In joint development with a motor manufacturer, the stepper motors produce a stronger magnetic field and thus better dynamic properties with the same rotor moment of inertia and high-quality products already in production. The synchronisation properties of the stepper motor can be significantly improved through the use of proprietary mechanical dampers. Disturbing resonance frequencies are thus virtually eliminated. The high positioning resolution of up to 600,000 positions per revolution is achieved by the control behaviour of our own stepper motor controllers.
Our stepper motors
Alpha Torque servomotors with absolute measuring system
Alpha Torque servomotors consist of high-torque stepper motors that provide maximum torque even at the lowest speed. The motors are equipped with a robust magnetic measuring system that records the position as an absolute position value even after 16384 revolutions. For many applications, this can save a time-consuming reference run. The measuring system works according to the vernier principle and requires no additional battery buffering.
Magnetic position measuring technology made by ITK: Magnetoresistive measuring technology has the advantage over optical measuring systems that it is insensitive to contamination. Since our MR measuring systems provide the typical values of an optical signal (1Vpp/20µm), it is possible to adapt an MR measuring system to your existing application and replace it with an optical measuring system if required.
Essentially, our MR measuring systems consist of three components: Magnetically encoded scale, MR sensor and evaluation electronics. All components are based on ITK’s development know-how. Our MR measuring systems are characterised by a flat design and absolute measuring systems for determining the target position. The evaluation electronics developed in-house allow very high resolutions, repeat accuracies and very high travel speeds – which is not available on the market in this combination!
OptoMag is a length measuring system based on a magneto-resistive (MR) sensor with very high resolutions and repeatabilities. It consists of three components: the magnetically coded scale, the MR sensor and the evaluation electronics. In contrast to optical measuring systems, the MR measuring technology used has the advantage, among other things, that it is insensitive to contamination. The OptoMag electronics convert the input signals of the sensors, which are in the mV range, into a sine/cosine signal with a period length of 20 µm and an amplitude of 1 Vpp. This signal corresponds to the signals of optical systems. The OptoMag measuring system is available in three different versions and thus enables a wide range of applications. Installation conditions with limited space are also taken into account.
OptoMag-C: Evaluation electronics for external sensor – ideally suited for applications with limited space.
OptoMag-S, -R: Evaluation electronics with integrated sensor (-S) and reference mark (-R) – ideally suited for system integration.
The MiniStar is a high-resolution position sensor. This variant stands out due to its particularly compact dimensions (especially attractive for applications with limited installation space). Available with different cable lengths on request.
NanoStar is another high-resolution measurement system belonging to our range of magnetic length and angle measurement products, comprising a sensor head and magnetic scale. The sensor utilizes the magnetoresistive (MR) effect and brings with it all the principle-related advantages of MR technology such as robustness, insensitivity to contamination and high resolution. During the measuring process, magnetic pole structures on the measuring scale are scanned contactlessly with an AMR sensor. The achievable measurement resolutions are in the nm range. Absolute accuracies of a few µm can be realised. The scale tape is simply glued to the structure or fixed to a scale carrier.
Controllers from ITK bring your application precisely and quickly to the point … and perhaps a little better than others can.
We develop control technology for all conceivable motor variants for positioning mechatronic applications. The focus is on dynamic and precise fine positioning down to the nanometre range. Our products bring decisive advantages in terms of speed, dynamics, highest precision and reliability.
Typical fields of application are traditional microscope technology, gantry positioning systems for the inspection of wafers in the semiconductor industry or positioning systems for measuring and analysis devices, to name but a few.
Today, we can boast over 40 years of experience in control technology. You can profit from this!
The controllers of the Hydra series are optimally designed to control the positioning systems of ITK. A new motor design ensures maximum performance in the smallest possible space. Hydra controllers achieve high dynamics with minimal heat generation. This is thanks to ITK’s output stage technology. Stepper motor, servo motor, torque motor or DC motor can be combined with a linear motor on the Hydra. Axis output stages can be specifically switched off for manual or motorised displacement of the axes. Hydra controllers are available in different versions – as table-top TT version with 500 W power supply or for control cabinet installation as CM version – as well as expandable for various accessories such as handwheel, 2-axis joystick.
Real-time data acquisition
Motion sequences can be simulated in the MotionManager. Currents, power, voltage and travel profiles are displayed. In combination with the MotionManager, the Quicklog function of the Hydra controller allows real-time data acquisition for a direct comparison between target and actual values. This is the prerequisite for optimally adjusting the servocontroller.
Fast Response Technology (FRT)
FRT defines a package of various measures for highly dynamic positioning while reducing mechanical vibrations and power requirements. The vibration time and amplitude at the target location have been reduced by a factor of 5 to 10 compared to PID controllers.
FRT positions audibly better!

The Andromeda series controllers are based on a modular concept and enable fine positioning in the sub-micrometre range. Andromeda controllers are very compact and scalable up to a full 6-axis controller. The MR sensors used ensure a position resolution of < 2 nm. The optimised control of the power output stages results in a low self-heating of the axis modules. Andromeda controllers are compatible with all common motor types in the extra-low voltage range and offer real-time data processing. In addition to the version for control cabinet installation (Andromeda CM), the Andromeda control is also available as a desktop version (Andromeda TT). Furthermore, the control system can be extended by various accessories such as handwheel, multi-wheel or 2-axis joystick.

With the Pollux family, ITK has set another milestone in the development of stepper motor drives.
The challenge of integrating control and motor to the maximum led to this intelligent positioning module in credit card format. The demand was high, because even this smallest representative of the ITK control family should have similar performance data as its “big siblings”. This means high positioning accuracy, low power loss and optimum running culture. The goal was achieved and with this product ITK has once again shown that new solutions can be created with competence and creativity.
